Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is ultimate short treks in the Annapurna region of Nepal. This trek is perfect for those who do not have a longer time to spend in the Himalayas. 

Starting from Nayapul which is one and a half-hour drive from Pokhara this trek passes through different beautiful settlements like Ulleri, Ghandruk, and Ghorepani. En route, you’ll enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery and ethnic Gurung and Magar cultures. 

The viewpoint of Poon Hill (3,210 meters) offers the best sunrise and sunset view. Mt. Annapurna range, Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Gangapurna, Mt. Nilgiri, Lamjung Himal, Mt. Manaslu range, and Tukuche Peak are some of the best snow-clad mountains you’ll view from this trek.

Best Time for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek 

Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is doable all round the year. But the best time for Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is March to May and September to November. In these months, the weather is stable with moderate temperature. The days are perfectly clear with clear blue skies and best mountain views. During monsoon and winter season, you might get stuck in the midway and the skies might not be so clear and you might miss the great mountain views.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 1Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara
    After early morning breakfast, you’ll leave the hotel for a scenic drive to Pokhara along the Prithvi National Highway. The drive will take roughly 7-8 hours to reach Pokhara. There is a short also an option for a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara which will take around 25-35 minutes. Once you reach Pokhara after being refreshed you can explore the lakeside of Phewa Lake. Overnight stay at Pokhara.
  • Day 2Trek from Pokhara to Tikhedunga (1,500 m)
    Max Altitude: 1,500 meters
    Walking Hours: 4-5 hrs walk
    Driving Hours: 45-minutes drive to Nayapul
    Walking Distance: 9.2 km

    Early morning you’ll take a short 45-minute drive to Nayapul from where your trek commences. From Nayapul, the trail steeply descends to Birethanti. Following the bank of the Bhuringdi Khola, you reach Tikhedhunga for an overnight stay.
  • Day 3Trek from Tikhedunga to Ghorepani (2,860 m)
    Max Altitude: 2,860 meters
    Walking Hours: 6hrs walk
    Walking Distance: 12.9 km
    Today after having breakfast you’ll start your journey towards Ghorepani. Enroute you’ll cross a suspension bridge and many beautiful water streams. You have to climb steep uphill for one and half hour until you reach Ulleri village (2,080 m). Ulleri is a small Magar village which offers you the grand view of Mt. Annapurna South.

    Further, you’ll continue your trek to Banthati. Enjoying the magnificent view of Mt. Macchapucchre, you’ll continue your trek to Nangethanti. And after an hour of walk, you’ll reach Ghorepani village for an overnight stay. The awe-inspiring views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Mt. Nilgiri South, Mt. Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli from this village will take your breaths away!
  • Day 4Trek from Ghorepani to Tadapani (3,210 m)
    Max Altitude: 3,210 meters
    Walking Hours: 5-6 hrs walk
    Walking Distance: 9.7 km

    Today you’ll get up early in the morning and hike to Poon Hill at an altitude of 3,210 m above the sea level. It’ll take around one hour to get to the top of the hill. From the viewpoint, you’ll see the best mesmerizing sunrise view of the Himalayas!

    You’ll see a wide Himalayan scenery stretching from Mt. Dhaulagiri (7th world’s highest peak) to Mt. Manaslu (8th world’s highest peak) in the east and along with mighty Annapurna range After capturing a wonderful view you’ll come back to Ghorepani and continue your trek to Tadapani.

    You’ll begin your trek with a steep climb to Deruali Pass similar to the elevation of Poon Hill. From this point also you’ll see all the mountains. Further after walking downhill for a few hours, you’ll reach Tadapani for an overnight stay.
  • Day 5Trek from Tadapani to Ghandruk Village (1,980 m)
    Max Altitude: 1,980 meters
    Walking Hours: 5 hrs walk
    Walking Distance: 6.5 km

    Today you’ll commence your trek, descending through stunning forests to Ghandruk, a beautiful Gurung village. The main inhabitants of this village are Gurung people, one of the most popular ethnic group for their distinctive language, culture, and lifestyle. It is also home to several brave soldiers named as Bir Gorkhali. In the evening, you can explore this beautiful village and visit Gurung Museum. You’ll spend a night at Ghandruk village.
  • Day 6 Trek back to Pokhara via Nayapul
    Max Altitude: 1,070 meters
    Duration: 4-5 hrs walk
    Driving Hours: 45-minutes drive
    Walking Distance: 8.6 km

    Today is the final day of the trek you’ll descend to the Modi Khola river and end to Nayapul. From here you’ll drive back to Pokhara. Overnight stay at Pokhara.
  • Day 7Drive back to Kathmandu from Pokhara
    Today you’ll return back to Kathmandu through Damauli, Dumre, Mugling, and Kurintar along Prithvi Highway. It will take approximately 5-6 hours drive to reach Kathmandu. Overnight stay at Kathmandu.
