Ghorepani poon hill trek is one of the most famous and short destination treks which falls under the Annapurna region trekking trails offers the great panoramic views of Himalayas. The main attraction of Ghorepani trekking is the series of mountains views like Dhaulagiri 8167m, Annapurna I 8091m, Machhapuchchhre 6998m, Nilgiri 7041m, Annapurna south 7219m, Annapurna II 7939m, Annapurna III 7555m, Annapurna IV 7525m, Lamjung Himal 6988m, Hiunchuli 6441m, Tukuche peak 6920m etc. Trekkers who are lack of time and interested in doing trek then they can do this trek of a week and make their lifetime memory. The trek starts from Nayapul of Pokhara. A  Glimpse of the snow-capped peaks turning from grey to pink to brilliant white is just awe-inspiring. This trek can be done all year round although spring and autumn are considered as the best trekking season with the ethnic group of Magar and Gurung. We can catch the glimpse of sunrise from the Poonhill early in the morning and sunset in the evening but mostly trekkers just overserve the beautiful sunrise view early in the morning.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 1Ktm - Pokhara
    On the first day of your trip, you go Pokhara on a tourist bus. You will have your breakfast in your hotel and head out on a 6-7 journey on a bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara covering a distance of 200 KM on a paved road. From the bus, you can observe beautiful, scenic hills that lie quite close to Trisuli and Marsyangdi River. The bus ride also offers you your first sights of Ganesh Himal and the Manaslu peak.

    There are various things you can enjoy in Pokhara. You can feel a wonderful touristic vibe in this valley. You can go for a pleasant stroll around the lakeside or head out for boating in the various lakes in Pokhara. You can also go for a pleasant visit to the various caves like Bat Cave, Mahendra Cave or Gupteshwor Mahadev cave.
    Options: There are daily flights from Kathmandu to Pokhara/KTM. If you would like to take a flight, you will have more save more time to visit Pokhara. There are many places for hiking.
  • Day 2Pokhara - Tikhedunga (1,500m)
    After having breakfast, you will start your journey to Nayapul (1070 meters). You will go to Nayapul in a 2-hour drive on a jeep. The Nepali word ‘Nayapul’ literally translates as “New Bridge”. From Nayapul, you will start your trek to Tikhedhunga. You will meet plenty of local and international trekkers as Nayapul is the start to many treks like Annapurna Base Camp and other treks in the Annapurna region.

    You might also see a lot of, mules and donkey trains along the way. The route from Tikhedhunga joins the village of Birethanti. The trail from Birethanti takes you to the old Trans-Himalayan trade route path, which is the main trail. After walking past various farm villages and waterfalls, you will reach Tikhedhunga (1500 meters). The trek from Nayapul to Tikhedhunga lasts 3-4 hours. Your overnight stay will be in Tikhedhunga.
  • Day 3Tikhedunga - Ghorepani (2,860 m)
    This will be the most challenging hike on the entire trip. From Tikhedhunga, you will trek to Ulleri. There are 3200 stairs you will have to climb in order to get to Ulleri. The trekking trail from Ulleri takes a winding turn through cool forests of ACAP as well as some uphills and downhills.
    A cold wind blows as you trek to Ghorepani. This is due to a change in altitude. The change in altitude makes the temperature of the places cooler in comparison. A similar change in vegetation is also observed. As Ghorepani is home to a large number of rhododendron forests, you will encounter plenty of them on your way. A trek of 6-7 hours from Tikhedhunga will take you to Ghorepani(2860 meters).
  • Day 4Ghorepani -Tadapani (2700m)
    Early in the morning around 4:45 we will hike at the top of Ghorepani to Poonhill(3210m) to catch the sunrise view for about 45 mins and then walk down to the hotel. Breakfast will be served by the hotel staff and start walking to Tadapani for about 6/7 hours in a whole day.
  • Day 5Tapadani – Ghandruk Village (1980m)
    Wonderful breakfast in Tadapani in the morning, and you resume your trek. Today you will trek to the largest Gurung village in the Annapurna region- the village of Ghandruk. Ghandruk lies deep in the forests of ACAP. The trek to Ghandruk is 2-3 hours long. After taking some rest in your room and having lunch, you will explore this beautiful village. This village offers you great views of mountains like Gangapurna, Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), Mount Annapurna amongst others. You can also visit the Annapurna Mountain Conservation Area Project (ACAP) headquarters. You will also visit the Gurung museum in Ghandruk with your guide. You will also get to see a Gurung cultural dance on request
  • Day 6Ghandruk - Pokhara
    Today, you will wave goodbye to the British Gurkhas Gurung village Ghandruk after breakfast. The trail descends to Syauli Bazar then follow clean river coming from Annapurna Base Camp until our starting point Nayapul, the initial point of your trek. From Nayapul, you will take a jeep/van to Pokhara. Today, you will trek for about 1 hour and drive to Pokhara.
    NOTE: There is also possible by 1 hour walk for the day and drive to Pokhara by jeep or van.
  • Day 7Pokhara - kathmandu
    Drive to Kathmandu from Pokhara by tourist bus.
    On this day, you will head out for a 6-7 hour bus ride from Pokhara to Kathmandu. The bus ride on a tourist bus is cozy and comfortable. From the bus, you can enjoy sights of lofty green hills and the sound of rivers like Trisuli and Marsyangdi. The ride might also offer some possible glimpses of Ganesh Himal and the Manaslu peak. You can spend this day buying some souvenir for friends and family back home. Thamel, which is a buzzing town in Kathmandu, is a place where you can go to for shopping these items.
