  • Day 11Thangna to Dzongla (4830m) via Chola pass (5420m)
Trekking duration: 7 to 8 hours

Difficulty level: Very difficult (need to walk on a glacier)

If you were not challenged by the hike the past days, get ready to hike on one of the most challenging routes during this trek. You need to start early, as today you will be crossing the Cho La pass. It will get tricky as the day goes on. The glacier starts melting as the sun rises, and it will be almost impossible once that starts happening.

The trail will soon hit a valley, and you will need to walk on rocks and huge boulders. As you move forward in your journey, you will see a wall of mountains. You need to trek over those mountains. The upward path that leads to Cho La pass is difficult. The land you walk is rough and scree. For every two steps you take forward, you move a step back. After about an hour of hard climb, you will reach the summit of Cho La pass. You can see high mountains afar. The valley beneath is beautiful, and the thin air will give you chills.

As you move forward, you will come across the Cho La glacier. You will have to walk through this glacier. Take a deep breath, prepare yourself, and move forward. The path is steep, slippery, and thrilling. A pair of crampons will be of massive help in this route. After you get across the glacier after about 40 minutes, look back and appreciate what you have just accomplished.

The trail continues onward, and you will reach a viewpoint. You will get a breathtaking view of some of the tallest mountains from this point. The valley is as beautiful as ever, and the mountains are incredible. Sitting on top of the viewpoint and experiencing such beauty is why people love hiking.

Continue the descent trail, and you will reach Dzongla. Get some rest for the night at a local guest house.
  • Day 12Dzongla to Lobuche (4940)
    Trekking duration: 3 hours

    Difficulty level: Easy

After a rough day yesterday, today you will be hiking through a smooth path. You will be walking alongside the Khumbu glacier on your right and through the valley. After a smooth hike, you will reach Lobuche.

Lobuche is a small town, which is the last place to stay overnight en route to Everest base camp. For the past 11 days, you would not have met lots of people, but get ready to meet a lot of them right here at Lobuche. Lobuche tends to get very busy and packed during the trekking seasons.

    Rest overnight at a hotel.
  • Day 13 Lobuche to Everest Base Camp (5380) And Back to Gorakshep
    Trekking duration: About 6 hours

    Difficulty level: Moderate

You have to get excited, as today you will reach the Everest Base Camp. Your journey will start with a smooth and easy walk. After that, the path begins uphill. You will reach Gorakshep after a climb of about 2 hours or so. The trail to EBC from Gorakshep has many ups and downs. You need to hike on a rough gravel top track.

Upon reaching the base camp, you will be awed by what the place has in hold for you. Mere letters cannot describe the 360-degree view of the mountains and snow-capped terrains.

Take enough photographs and walk back to Gorakshep.
  • Day 14Gorakshep to Kala Patthar (5643m) And Back To Lobuche
    Trekking duration: 6 hours

    Difficulty level: Moderate to Hard

Get up real early in the morning and head off to Kala Patthar (if you want). The hike is challenging, but it is a worthy walk. The path consists of rocky tracks with huge boulders. It will take you around 2 hours of a tough climb through the rocky mountain until you reach Kala Patthar. The view from there is astounding. Everest seems even more beautiful from up here than from the base camp.

The harder part of today’s trek is over as it will take about 45 minutes for you to reach Gorakshep. Pack your bag and head back to Lobuche. You will rest at the same hotel at Lobuche for the night.
  • Day 15Lobuche to Chhukung(4730) via Kongmala Pass(5535m)
    Trekking duration: 7 hours

    Difficulty level: Moderate

Start your day early and walk through the fog towards Khumbu glacier. Enjoy the beautiful views of Pumori, Kala Patthar and the open glacier highway. You need to go over the Khumbu glacier, which is not a difficult one as the one at Cho La pass.

Following the path, you will come across some steep trails and difficult terrains. The incredible mountains at a distance will be a motivation for you to move forward. This hike can be difficult, but the reward is more than enough for you to understand. The worthy hike is filled with tough steps and slippery surface. You can see the prayer flags on top of the Kong ma La pass.

Words are not enough to describe the breathtaking view from the Kong ma La pass. You can see mountains like Lhotse, Makalu, Baruntse, and many more afar. Just below the Pass, there are three blue lakes as well. The mountains and three lakes inside a single frame is outstanding.

The descent from here to Chhukung is exciting. You get to see different lakes and peaks. You will descent through a valley and pass a small waterfall. After a few more descent and ascent, you will reach Chhukung. Rest for the night here.

Tonight you will rest in a tent.

If you are an independent traveller, we will be glad to organize the climb to the Island Peak from Chhukung. We will provide you with tools and training if you require.
