About The Lobuche Peak Climbing Route

The Lobuche peak climbing and EBC Trek begins with a short 30 min thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. Throughout this flight, you can observe steep terrains, green landscapes, and snow-capped mountains. The trip in itself is a thrilling experience with a steep descent to a small inclined paved airstrip in Lukla.

After landing in Lukla, we meet the rest of our team and after having lunch, continue to Phakding. We continue our trek the next day to Namche Bazaar passing through lush vegetations and fantastic views of the surrounding mountains. Namche Bazaar is famous for being the hometown of Sherpas and the open markets around it.

From Namche, we further travel to Tengboche where is home to Tengboche monastery. The ancients built the monastery centuries ago, and it is rich with cultural heritage. The trail also continues to Dingboche, where we take an acclimation day to prevent altitude sickness, and further onto Lobuche via the Kongma La Pass (5536m).

The trail to EBC is not slippery and its quite favorable despite the steep ascents and descents. Once we reach Lobuche, we travel to Gorak Shep and finally into the Base camp, where the magnificent Everest stands right before your eyes.

Now we descend back to Gorak Shep and make our way to Lobuche Base Camp, from where we will be summiting the Lobuche East Peak. After an acclimatization day, we summit the peak early in the morning for the magnificent views and return to Base camp after some well deserved time in the mountain.

We then travel back to Namche and Lukla, where we catch a return flight back to Kathmandu, concluding the fantastic 18 days trek. Although the trek comes to an end, the magnificent scenes you witnessed and the memories you made will stay with you forever!

Best Time For Lobuche Peak Climbing And EBC Trek

Climbing the Lobuche Peak requires an extremely favorable climate. Lousy weather and winds can make the summit more complicated and risky. Thus it is best to opt the Lobuche Peak climbing and EBC Trek in the favorable seasons.

The most favorable times for the summit are generally during autumn and spring. Autumn lies between April to May and spring lies around September-November. These months, the skies are more clear, and the temperatures (in high altitudes) though cold are still tolerable.

The freezing temperatures, snowfall, and slippery trails make the rainy and winter season not suitable for the climb. Rainy season brings wild forests and leeches whereas winter season creates thick layers of snow on the Lobuche Peak, making it more difficult to summit.

Temperatures are approximate -5 degree celsius during autumn and -2 degree celsius during springs. But if you carry warm clothes with you, then the dropping temperatures should not pose as a barrier.

Difficulty Of Lobuche Peak Climbing And EBC Trek

Lobuche Peak Climbing and EBC Trek is a technically challenging trek compared to the Island Peak trek. It requires high endurance and stamina as you have to walk through rocky and steep mountains for an average of 5 to 6 hours every day. Also, the high altitude and thin air can create fatigue and altitude sickness.

Despite the challenges, both novice and expert climbers can attempt this climb. With the right physical endurance, proper equipment, and proper guidance of representatives, you can perform the trek successfully.

The steep stone terraces and snowy slopes with a 45-degree climb add more difficulty; thus, we need to use the help of ropes, cables, and crampons. Also, the path consists of slippery iced and snowed stones, making the trail more steep and risky.

The high altitude can also create troubles for many individuals. We have designed the itinerary in the best way possible so that you get acclimatized to the climate, yet some people may succumb to the thin air and fall prey to AMS (Altitude Mountain Sickness).

Overall, the trek is a pretty complex one, especially for novice climbers. But if you are adventure-hungry, then these difficulties might be the next challenge for you to consider taking!

Physical Condition Needed For The Lobuche Peak Climbing And EBC Trek

Although you don’t need any previous climbing experience for Lobuche peak climbing and EBC Trek, you still need to have basic knowledge of using mountaineering equipment such as crampons, harness ice axes, carabiners, and more. Also, physical stamina is a must! So, you can practice home exercises that build up your stamina, before the trek. You can even take bicycle rides or short hikes as they build up your endurance and muscle strength.

If you are under certain medications or have a pulmonary related illness, it’s better to consult your physician before taking up the trek.
