Shivapuri National park is a 9th national park in Nepal which was established in 2002 covering the total area of 159 km2 at the altitude of 2732m above the sea levels. This National park covers the district of Kathmandu, Nuwakot and Sindupalchowk adjoining 23 VDC including the protected area of extended to Dhading District. This national park includes Historical and religious sites and popular hiking routes for the local people and tourism. The park is located in a transit zone subtropical and temperate climate. According to the data collected in 2003-2004 we can find many animals such as Indian leopard, jungle cat, large Indian civet, golden jackal, Himalayan black bear, yellow-throated marten, small Asian mongoose, Himalayan goral, barking deer, wild boar, rhesus monkey, Hanuman langur, Chinese pangolin, Indian crested porcupine, Himalayan pika, black-naped hare, Indian hare, Himalayan squirrel, fawn-colored mouse, brown-toothed shrew and black rat were identified,Clouded leopard, leopard cat, jungle cat, large Indian civet, masked palm civet, crab-eating mongoose, pangolin, rhesus macaque and yellow-throated marten, were camera trapped in 2010, intermediate horseshoe, greater horseshoe and big-eared horseshoe bats were mist-netted at the entrance of Nagarjuna cave inside the park.
In the western part of the park, herpetologists encountered Monocled Cobra, Himalayan keelback, olive Oriental slender snake, yellow-bellied worm-eating snake, variegated mountain lizard, Oriental garden lizard, many-keeled grass skink, Sikkim skink, black-spined toad, long-legged cricket frog, and horned frog in the summer of 2009. Ornithologists recorded 318 species of birds including Eurasian eagle-owl, slender-billed scimitar-babbler, white-gorgeted flycatcher, barred cuckoo-dove and golden-throated barbet. This is the best short or mini trek all the seasons or throughout the year. All season welcome trekking, only short 8km drive from Kathmandu valley about 25 minutes driving by a private car to the well known Hindus shrine 'Budanilkantha temple' and reknown Buddhist monastery named Nagi Gompa in the elevation of 2340m and 500 species forest. Cycling and day picnic hike also possible in this area as well as meditation and Buddhism practice can be done in Nagi Gompa. After a great walk in the jungle of Shivapuri national park and Nagi Gompa with panoramic views of Kathmandu valley finally, arrive at Chisapni and then trek all the downhill to Sundarijal then trek back to Kathmandu by a private car/Van.

07:30 AM - Start hiking from the south side of Shivapuri passing through Nagi Gompa with incredible views of Kathmandu city towards to Sundarijal (2020 Mtrs. 10km 4 hrs walking).
15:00 - Trek down to Sundarija
17:00 - Drive back to Kathmandu either by a private car/van with driver and your trek guide/porter (1 hour and 30 minutes driving.
