Best Time for Tsum Valley Trek

Spring falls in the month of March, April, and May. It is the time of the year where nature regenerates its lost beauty. New plants grow and flower such as rhododendron bloom. Tsum Valley Trek Difficulty

Tsum Valley trek is a moderate level trekking destination in Nepal. The difficulty level of the trek also depends upon the type of trekker you are. If you are someone who is physically fit can trek continuously for 6 to 7 hours a day, this trek may not be very difficult for you. However, if you are a beginner, it might be challenging. So, proper exercise before trekking to the Tsum Valley would help you a lot. 

The trek includes different uphill and downhill climbing during the trails. During monsoon, the trekking trails get muddy and slippery due to which you may have problems while walking. Similarly, you may be prone to altitude sickness as well when you trek above 3000 meters. So make sure to carry some Diamox tablets.

  • Day 1:Kathmandu to Arkhet (620m) via Arughat Bazaar. Overnight at a lodge . Estimated time: 6 hours drive
  • Day 2:Arkhet to Lapu Besi (840m). Overnight at a lodge
  • Day 3:Lapu Besi to Tatopani or Khorla Besi (970m) Overnight at lodge.
  • Day 4:Day 4: Tatopani to Philim (1570m). Overnight at lodge. Walking Duration: 6 hours
  • Day 5:Philim to Chumling (2386m).Overnight at lodge Trekking Duration: 5-6 hours
  • Day 6:Chumling to Chhokangparo (3031m).Overnight at lodge. Trekking Duration: 4-5 hours
  • Day 7:Chhekampar to Nile (3361m) Overnight at lodge Walking Duration: 6-7 hours

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 1Kathmandu to Arkhet (620m) via Arughat Bazaar. Overnight at a lodge . Estimated time: 6 hours drive
    On the first day of your trip, you will wake up early in the morning and have your breakfast. Our representative will come and you will start your journey to Arkhet. After 3 hours of driving, you will reach to Arughat Bazar which is a town filled with the Newari settlement. After a few hours, you will reach Arkhet where you will spend your night in one of the lodges.
  • Day 2Arkhet to Lapu Besi (840m). Overnight at a lodge
    Walking duration: 6 hours
    On the second day of your trek, you will have to trek to the height of 840 meters which will take you around 5-6 hours. On this day, you will trek through some of the steep valleys, dense forest along with some small villages. You will walk along the Soti Khola and cross some suspension bridge. You will see Budi Gandaki River along the trail.
    After walking for some time, you will reach Khursane. The trails become rocky from this onwards. You will be able to see some terraces, waterfalls, and cliffs along the way. After moving further, you will reach Lapu Besi. Labu Besi is a small village inhabited by Gurungs. Overnight you will stay at a lodge in Lapu Besi.
  • Day 3Lapu Besi to Tatopani or Khorla Besi (970m) Overnight at lodge.
    Trekking Duration: 5-6 hours
    From Lapu Besi, you will walk towards Maccha Khola to reach Tato Pani or Khorla Besi on this day. Khorla Besi stands at a height of 970 meters and you will need to walk for about 5-6 hours on this day.

    After walking for some time, you will reach to Khani Besi and then descending your way to the Maccha Khola Village. From Khani Besi, you will have a beautiful view of Mount Ganesh. You will walk along the Kali Gandaki River bead and cross several suspension bridges before you reach Khorla Besi. From Khorla Besi, you will ascend and descend your way and finally reach the natural hot water spring at Tatopani.
  • Day 4Day 4: Tatopani to Philim (1570m). Overnight at lodge. Walking Duration: 6 hours
    On this day you will enter the restricted area of Tsum Valley where you will have to walk for about 6-7 hours to reach Philim. Your restricted area permit must be registered at the checkpoint in Jagat. Jagat is a small village where you can find various ethnic groups of people living together like Brahmin, Chhetri, Newar, etc. from Jagat, you will trek towards Saguleri.

    From Siguleri, you will walk through ups and downs trails to reach Buri Gandaki and then to Ghata- Khola. From Ghatta Khola you will walk towards a village of Philim. Philim is a captivating village which is rich in terrace farming and cultivated village. You will eat your lunch in one of the lodges of Philim and stay overnight there.
  • Day 5Philim to Chumling (2386m).Overnight at lodge Trekking Duration: 5-6 hours
    From Philim you will walk towards farm villages and golden fields of barley to reach Lokpa. Lokpa is a doorway to Tsum which sits at an altitude of 2386 meters. From Lokpa you will trek towards a narrow ridge uphill into the bamboo forest area and forest covered with Alpine trees and rhododendron. You will reach Ganesh Himal Base Camp and then climb above the Lungwa Khola to reach Chumling Village.

    Chumling is a beautiful village which is also known to the name Lower Tsum. It sits in the southward direction of majestic Sangrila Himal. You will be spending your night at a lodge in Chumling.
  • Day 6Chumling to Chhokangparo (3031m).Overnight at lodge. Trekking Duration: 4-5 hours
    On this day, you will walk towards Dumje from Chumling to reach Chhokangparo. It will take you around 4-5 hours to reach Chhokangparo. You will slowly walk along the Ganesh Himal in the east and Manaslu in the western direction. As you walk further, the villages and landscape change as similar to Tibetan Plateau. You will walk downhill to cross a bridge over the Smatiking Khola. From there, you will reach a village of Chhkangparo.
  • Day 7Chhekampar to Nile (3361m) Overnight at lodge Walking Duration: 6-7 hours
    On this day, you will trek to the Upper Manaslu region, Nile, which sits at an altitude of 3361 meters. You will start your journey trekking uphill on to a wide-open valley along with few trees throughout your trails. You will have great views of Ganesh and Manaslu Himal along the way to Nile.

    After walking for 20 minutes from Chule, you will reach Nile. Nile is a beautiful village that sits on the west side of Shiar Khola.on the route to Nele you will visit a holy cave, Piren Phu Cave.
  • Day 8Nile to Mu Gompa (3700m). Overnight at lodge Walking Duration: 3-4 hours
    On this day, you will hike up to Mu Gompa which is short. It will take you around 3-4 hours to reach there. The trekking trails will follow the westward direction. The Gompa sits at an altitude of 3700 meters.

    You will walk along the Tibetan landscapes as the Gompa sits on the Tibetan border. The place is also influenced by Tibetan culture. After you reach the Mu Gompa, you will get a chance to explore the high valley of Tsum. inside the Gompa, you can see different idols and statues. You will get a chance to see the Langdung glacier towards the east of the Gompa. The mountain ranges look spectacular when viewed from Mu Gompa.
  • Day 9Exploration day around Mu Gompa and trek to Bhajyo Karlang (4030m). Trekking Duration: 5-6 hours
    Today you will spend your day exploring the area. You can see big pastures surrounding the Mu Gompa. You can see two passes towards the east and west of the Gompa. They are Mailatasachin Pass and Thapla Bhanjyang which stands at the height of 5093 meters and 5104 meters respectively.

    You can also hike up to the Base Camp of Pika Himal if you want to. Many trekkers prefer to trek up to the Bhajyo Karlang on this day. This trek will give you the views into Tibet. It will take you around 5-6 hours to trek to Bhajyo Karlang. You can also visit the Dhampu Doma Gompa which is around 600 years old.
  • Day 10Mu Gumpa to Domje (2460m). Overnight at lodge, Trekking Duration: 5-6 hours
    After exploring the Mu Gumpa, you will trek towards Rachen Gumpa on this day. Rachen Gumpa sits at an altitude of 3240 meters. You will follow the Shair Khola and reach the beautiful village of Nile. Before reaching Domje, you will follow the uphill and downhill sections. You will follow the trek route to Chule valley and descend towards Purbe. You will then reach a village of Domje.
    You can find plenty of lodges and teahouses in Domje village. You will stay overnight at Domje.
  • Day 11Domje to visit Ganesh Himal Base Camp and glacier and back to the Hotel. Overnight at the lodge.
    On this day, you will have your breakfast at Domje and you will trek towards Chumling. From Chumling, you will get a beautiful view of the Shingri Himal. From Chumling, you will follow the way to Ganesh Himal Base Camp. You will walk towards the ridge and from the top of the ridge, you will have magnificent views of the Ganesh Himal and glaciers.
    After exploring the base camp, you will return back to your hotel at Domje.
  • Day 12Domje to Philim (1570m). Overnight at lodge Trekking Duration: 6-7 hours
    On this day, you will have your breakfast early in the morning and trek towards Lokpa. To reach Lokpa, you will follow the same route to Chumling and Ganesh Himal Base Camp. you will walk downhill and reach Lokpa. From Lokpa you will descend your way to Ekle Bhatti and Tsum Valley Trail. After walking for 6-7 hours, you will finally reach Philim. You will stay overnight at a lodge in Philim.
  • Day 13Philim to Maccha Khola (869m). Overnight at lodge. Trekking Duration: 4 Hours
    You will start trekking to Jagat on this day. You will cross the Budhi Gandaki river and reach Thado Bharyang. You will cross some suspension bridges and walk through stone staircases and reach Doban. From Doban, you will follow the same route to Tatopani. then the trail involves the route to Khorla Besi. From Khorla Besi, you will walk through a beautiful trail to Maccha Khola Village.
  • Day 14Macchakhola to Soti Khola (700m) 4 hrs walk. Trekking Duration: 4 Hours
    On the 14th day of your trek, you will follow a beautiful trekking trail to Khani Besi and then the trail goes downhill to Labubesi. Labubesi is a captivating village of Gurungs. then you will pass through some waterfalls and rocky trails to reach Khursani. From Khursani, you will walk through the forest of Sal and then reach Soti Khola.
  • Day 15Day 15: Soti Khola to Kathmandu by local bus 8 hrs. Overnight at the Hotel
    From Soti Khola, you will have your breakfast and drive to Kathmandu by a local bus. It will take you 8 hours to reach Kathmandu from Soti Khola. After reaching Kathmandu, we will transfer you to your hotel.

  • Sometimes you have sleep on the matted floor when the hotel's/Guest houses or lodges are full in the peaked trekking season. 
  • We request you to deposit at least 20% of your whole trip packages cost to our bank account this is because to make your trip assure with our appropriate regional local guides and porters in the right trekking, peak climbing or other adventure destinations.
  • Ask your guide or call us at the office if you would like to add more porters along with the trekking tours or trips.
